Vertical Mixer
A vertical mixer uses a conical or cylindrical vertical vessel with a centrally mounted helical ribbon or screw agitator.
As the agitator rotates, it lifts material from the base of the conical vessel upward along the vessel wall, while material in the center simultaneously falls downward — creating a continuous, gentle top-to-bottom circulation throughout the batch.
The conical geometry ensures that the agitator engages all material throughout the mix cycle, and promotes complete discharge through the bottom outlet with minimal residue.
The vertical configuration produces a significantly gentler mixing action than horizontal designs — making it the preferred choice for fragile materials, heat-sensitive compounds, coated particles that must not be abraded, and applications where minimal product degradation is critical.
The compact vertical footprint requires 50 to 70% less floor space than a horizontal mixer of equivalent capacity.
Best For
- Fragile materials — coated granules, crystals, dried ingredients that cannot be abraded
- Heat-sensitive compounds where shear-generated heat must be minimized
- Small to medium batch sizes with variable production requirements
- Space-constrained facilities where horizontal footprint is not possible
- Applications requiring near-complete discharge and minimal residue
